Bereavement, Coping with Loss or grief can impact people in different ways. The SBS can support you through this time when your feelings, thoughts, behaviours, body reactions, and relationships may be affected.
Some areas the SBS can help:
- The Welfare Officer can offer Bereavement care, support over the phone, through regular meetings at the SBS office or home visits in order to support the bereaved person through the loss process and coping with grief.
One of the many situations where you or someone you know may benefit from bereavement support:
Mr. T lost his father with whom he had a very close bond, they had spent significant time together daily. His parent died unexpectedly and in a traumatic fashion; which left him depressed, angry, distraught, sleepless, and unable to focus on anything else other than the death. Having to handle the fact that his father was gone forever, he spoke to the Welfare Officer about memories from birthdays to walks. Through the waves of grief, he experienced many panic attacks, and the SBS Welfare Officer guided him through the local services and charity’s, which he could use to help him manage the symptoms.
